U.S. Imposes Sanctions On Russia’s Oil Giants

The move aims to push Russian President Putin to the negotiating table.

The Trump administration imposed sanctions on Russia’s two largest oil companies.

The massive sanctions against oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil comes after months of calls from Ukrainian President Zelenskyy as well as bipartisan pressure on President Trump to hit Russia with harder sanctions on its oil industry.

The move aims to push Russian President Putin to the negotiating table with a goal of bringing an end to Moscow’s war on Ukraine.

Trump said “hopefully” Putin will become “reasonable” in response to the sanctions. He added, “hopefully” Zelenskyy will also be reasonable so the pair can reach an agreement.
