Grand Strand Native Plant Sale Is Coming to Surfside Beach

October 11th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Park.

The Grand Strand chapter of the South Carolina Native Plant Society will be hosting our first-ever native plant sale in Surfside Beach!

Tierney Rosenstock was in the studio to talk about the event that will take place on October 11th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Park.

Plant sales have been held in Conway in the past, but this fall, Grand Strand SCNPS will be bringing native plants to the beach for the first time!

The free event will give a new part of our local community an opportunity to purchase and learn about the importance of native plants. Native plants perform a number of important functions, including supporting biodiversity, providing resources for pollinators, regulating the flow of water in flood zones, filtering air and water pollution, protecting us from the impacts of heat, and giving us a sense of place. The Grand Strand region is home to many interesting and beautiful native plants, including carnivorous Venus flytraps (Dionaea muscipula) and pitcher plants (Sarracenia spp.), as well as the wax myrtle (Morella cerifera), for which Myrtle Beach was named.

The plant sale will feature vendors with a variety of plants, low-cost soil testing by Clemson extension, kids eco-activities, local environmental groups, native plant advice from SCNPS members, and more!

Vendors include: Flying Fig FarmHoly City PlantsNative Plants to the PeopleNaturescapes of BeaufortRoots and Shoots NurserySnailSeed Native Plants, and South Carolina Native Ecotype Seeds.
