Former FBI Director James Comey has been indicted by a federal grand jury.
Comey was charged with lying to Congress in a criminal case filed days after President Trump appeared to urge his attorney general to prosecute the former director and other perceived political enemies.
The indictment makes Comey the first former senior government official to face prosecution who was involved in the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Comey took to social media to proclaim his innocence adding that he has “great confidence in the federal judicial system.” He also said he is prepared for a trial to clear his name.
