Texas A&M President Steps Down
The university system chancellor said that it was "the right moment for change" at one of the nation's largest universities.
Texas A&M University’s president is stepping down.
Mark Welsh III made the announcement Thursday after facing criticism over a classroom video that showed a student objecting to a children’s literature lesson about gender.
The video was not mentioned in Welsh’s departure. But it comes after the video stirred up the campus and put him under criticism by some Republican lawmakers, including the state’s lieutenant governor.
The university system chancellor said that it was “the right moment for change” at one of the nation’s largest universities. She added that the move is necessary to ensure the school’s unwavering commitment to its core values. Welsh’s resignation took effect Friday.
