Israel Launches Offensive In Gaza City

The Israel military says the offensive aims to "destroy Hamas' military infrastructure."

Israel launched its offensive in Gaza City Tuesday.

The operation into the largest Palestinian city further escalates a conflict that has ravaged in the Middle East and likely pushes any possible ceasefire agreements further out of reach.

The military did not offer a timeline for the offensive, which it says aims to “destroy Hamas’ military infrastructure.” The announcement suggested it could take months.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared that “Gaza is burning” as the operation began. Heavy bombardment battered the city overnight and into the morning.

Thousands of Palestinians are fleeing the city as large-scale raids have taken place throughout the war, but this time Israel vowed to take control of the entire city.
