Trump Says Charlotte Stabbing Suspect Should Face Death Penalty

President Trump says the suspect in the killing of a Ukrainian woman on a transit train in Charlotte, should face the death penalty.

34-year-old Decarlos Brown is accused of attacking 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska on the night of August 22. She died from the injuries she sustained after Brown stabbed her in the neck with a pocket knife.

Security footage led to Brown being identified and arrested. He has been charged with first-degree murder and committing an act causing death on a mass transportation system.

President Trump condemned the deadly stabbing and called Brown a “mad man” and “a lunatic.” He added that Brown should be given a “quick” trial, and only awarded “the death penalty.”

Zarutska fled Ukraine with her family in 2022 amid Russia’s ongoing war with the country, bringing her to the U.S.. She was reportedly on her way home from work when the attack occurred.
