FEMA Staffers Send Letter To Trump Administration
The letter implies that the Trump administration is weakening the agency's capability to carry out it's missions.
Over 180 current and former FEMA employees sent a letter to the Trump administration as a warning.
The letter highlighted a specific administration policy. The policy requires Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to conduct a “personal review and approval of all contracts, grants and mission assignments over $100,000.”
The staffers said the requirement “reduces FEMA’s authority and capability to swiftly deliver” their mission.
The letter implies that the Trump administration is weakening the agency’s capacity and preventing it from carrying out missions.
The letter also warns that there is no congressionally approved administrator leading the agency. The staffers alleged that its current leader is not qualified for the position.
The letter comes after the Trump administration has repeatedly hinted at phasing out the agency altogether, which would place more responsibility on states individually.
