Walmart Frozen Shrimp Recalled After Radioactive Material Found

Cesium-137 contamination was discovered in shipping containers and frozen shrimp products processed in Indonesia.

The FDA opened an investigation after a shipment of frozen shrimp tested positive for a man-made radioactive material.

Cesium-137 contamination was discovered in shipping containers and frozen shrimp products processed in Indonesia at four U.S. ports. The food was planned to ship to Walmart locations.

Officials have now collected multiple samples and the supplier, Pt. Bahari Makmur Sejati, was added to the “red list,” meaning its products cannot be sold in the U.S. until the issue is resolved.

The product appears to have been prepared, packed, or held under unsanitary conditions. The environment allowed it to be contaminated with the radioactive material.

Walmart immediately recalled the Great Value raw frozen shrimp. Those who have purchased the products are urged to throw them away.
