School Bus Stop-Arm Violators To Face Penalties
Passing a stopped school bus could result in a fine of $1,000 and six points on your license.
The school year is officially underway and state troopers are reminding drivers that buses have returned to the roads.
On two lane roads, a driver is never allowed to pass a school bus that has it’s stop-arm activated. However, on four-lane or multi-lane roads, only the cars behind the school bus must stop.
The flashing lights on a school bus are a sign for you to stop as students will be exiting or loading onto the bus.
The vehicles now have cameras to catch violators. Passing a stopped school bus could result in a fine of $1,000 and six points on your license.
Drivers are encouraged to be mindful of danger zones, meaning all sides of the bus, and remember if you cannot see the driver, they can’t see you.
As for students, always stand 10 feet away from a bus stop. You must wait until the lights are activated and stop arm is down before making your move.
