AT&T Agrees To $177 Million Settlement

AT&T has agreed to a $177 million settlement in connection to a massive data breach that targeted customers.
In March of last year, the telephone company confirmed that a data-set found on the “dark web” contained personal information. Around 7.6 million current account holders and 65.4 million former account holders were affected.
The breach started in 2019 and the information of nearly all AT&T customers was downloaded to a third-party platform in a 2022 security breach.
A federal judge has given preliminary approval for two settlement funds, one for $149 million, the other $28 million.
AT&T has denied any responsibility but agreed to the settlement to “avoid the expense and uncertainty of protracted litigation.”
