Georgetown Police To Strictly Enforce Safe Streets Ordinance
Enforcing the ordinance more strictly comes after recent shootings and juvenile gun charges in the area.
Officials in Georgetown will strictly enforce the city’s comprehensive safe streets ordinance after an increase in teen crime.
The law covers violations such as unsupervised juveniles carrying weapons, police authority, as well as parental responsibilities.
Parents and guardians are under certain restrictions and subject to penalty within the ordinance in connection to allowing a child to be endangered or exposed to criminal activity.
A curfew is in effect for juveniles from 10pm-6am Sunday-Thursday. From Friday to Saturday, and on holidays, the curfew is from midnight to 6am.
Under the ordinance, officers are allowed to stop and question minors who are out past the curfew, and transport them home. They’re also allowed to investigate neglect or parental involvement in delinquent acts.
It is illegal for those under 18 to possess a firearm, ammunition, brass knuckles, knives with over 2-inch blades, and other dangerous weapons.
