Officer Resigns After Search Warrant Leads To Arrest

Before her resignation, Dinisha Barfield had been with the department since November of last year.

An officer with the Red Springs Police Department resigned after she was arrested.

Dinisha Barfield’s resignation came after she was detained by Lumberton police at her home last week after a search warrant was conducted.

Officers were attempting to locate Charles Sinclair who was wanted on several charges.

The search led to the discovery of cocaine, fentanyl, oxycodone and an undisclosed amount of cash. Two small children were also found in the home.

Both Barfield and Sinclair now face several charges including possession, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, and others.

Barfield was separately charged with two counts of misdemeanor child abuse.

Before her resignation, she had been with the department since November of last year.

Interim Police Chief Justin Hewett said he will not tolerate any type of “criminal behavior” by anyone in the department.
