8.8 Magnitude Quake Off Russia Coast Prompts Tsunami Warnings
Several people were injured, but none seriously, also, no deaths or major damage was reported so far.
A massive 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Russia’s far eastern coast triggering tsunami waves across the Pacific.
Several people were injured, but none seriously, also, no deaths or major damage was reported so far. However, the quake has been reported as one of the biggest ever recorded.
Shortly after it struck, tsunami advisories and warnings urged millions to move away from coastal zones and seek higher ground in Russia, Japan, the Philippines, Chile, Peru and more. That also includes Hawaii, Alaska and the U.S. West Coast.
Tsunami waves began reaching Hawaii’s coast with one being over 5-feet high on the shore of Maui. Smaller waves arrived along the Washington, Oregon, and California coastline early Wednesday morning.
So far, minimal damage has been reported and many warnings have been downgraded.
