Driver Escapes After Sinkhole Swallows Car At Traffic Light

Myrtle Beach police were called to the intersection of Seaboard Street and Harrelson Boulevard.

Earlier Tuesday morning, the roadway gave out beneath a car while it was stopped at a traffic light in Horry County.

Around 4:30am, Myrtle Beach police were called to the intersection of Seaboard Street and Harrelson Boulevard.

Upon arrival, the front end of a car was submerged in a large sinkhole.

The hole was caused by a broken six-inch water main near the Horry County Ride III construction site.

The water was shut-off and the car has been removed from the hole.

Crews will be working to repair the broken waterline. The road will need to be repaved and is closed off to traffic for now.

The driver of the car was able to escape the vehicle and did not sustain any injuries.
