MBFD Battles Flames At Abandoned Motel

The structure fire was at the Sea Gypsy at 304 N. Ocean Boulevard.

The Myrtle Beach Fire Department responded to a fire at an abandoned motel Sunday.

The structure fire was at the Sea Gypsy at 304 N. Ocean Boulevard.

That section of the road was blocked off to traffic as crews worked on the scene.

The flames started on the second floor and were put under control but the cause remains unknown.

One firefighter was taken out on a stretcher and sent to the ER for a heat-related illness but no other injuries were reported.

An investigation is underway.
