The driver of a loaded logging truck swerved to avoid colliding with a vehicle that was crossing the intersection in front of him on Turbeville Highway.
The truck drove off the road into a nearby wooded area, striking several trees.
59-year-old Calvin Hilton was identified as the truck driver. He did not survive the injuries he sustained.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
