Over 30 People Injured After Vehicle Plows Through Crowd
Seven victims remain in critical condition, but no deaths have been reported at this time.
36 people were injured after a vehicle plowed through a crowd waiting to enter a nightclub along a busy Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Around 2am local time on Saturday, Rampart patrol officers responded to a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. 29-year-old Fernando Ramirez reportedly intentionally drove into the crowd of people after making a u-turn.
After the vehicle crashed and to a stop, by-standers removed Ramirez from it and attacked him. During the attack he was shot and transported to a local hospital where he had to undergo surgery. He was detained Sunday for assault with a deadly weapon and force likely to produce great bodily injury.
The suspect who shot the driver fled the scene and remains at large. A fight broke out outside of the club prior to the incident but authorities are still working to learn more about what occurred leading up to the crash.
