Suspect Crashes Into River During Police Pursuit
The driver headed to the Pitts Landing boat ramp before crashing into the Little Pee Dee River.
A police pursuit in Horry County resulted in a crash.
Around 9:45pm Monday night, police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Highway 501 and Waccamaw Pines Drive.
The driver fled the scene prompting the pursuit that lead to Highway 378. They then headed to the Pitts Landing boat ramp before crashing into the Little Pee Dee River.
Horry County Fire Rescue crews were called shortly after 10pm in response to the single-vehicle crash involving people in the water.
Two occupants of the car swam to shore where they were detained. The driver is believed to have also made it to shore but then fled on foot.
Boat and drone assistance was at the scene to help with search efforts.
As of Tuesday morning, the incident is under control and there is no risk to the community.
Crews worked to remove the vehicle from the water and an investigation is underway.
