Myrtle Beach Park To Get Upgrades With Help From State Aid

A playground in Myrtle Beach is getting upgraded thanks to some assistance from state aid.

Savannah’s Playground in the Market Common area first opened in 2016 and is named after Savannah Thompson, a local girl with Williams syndrome.

The park is one of South Carolina’s largest disability-accessible playgrounds.

On Tuesday, city council members accepted a $71,155 state Parks and Rec, and Tourism grant that will go toward renovations.

The planned upgrade will total $2 million and will include replacing the rubber surfacing with synthetic turf, sunshades, and more.

Work will begin later this year.
