Uber And Waymo Expand Robotaxi Partnership To Atlanta

The rideshare company will give customers a choice to request a car operated by a human if they don't want to take a driverless ride.

Uber is expanding its partnership with Waymo to launch additional robotaxi services through parts of Atlanta.

Uber and Waymo first partnered up earlier this year to launch the robotaxi option in Austin.

As in Austin, Waymo’s robotaxis in Atlanta will be dispatched through Uber’s app.

The rideshare company will give customers a choice to request a car operated by a human if they don’t want to take a driverless ride.

They will initially cover a 65-square-mile area within the Atlanta market before expanding to a larger stretch.

The move to expand into a different city comes after Tesla launched a limited robotaxi service in Austin creating competition to overtake Waymo as the leader in autonomous driving technology.

While Tesla is starting with about a dozen supervised robotaxis, Waymo and Uber have dispatched about 100 completely driverless vehicles in Austin less than four months after their partnership began.
