A Wall Street Journal report says young Americans are swapping constant cell phone use for pastimes dubbed “Grandma Hobbies.” They are choosing knitting, crocheting, scrapbooking, baking, crafting, and reading.

People partaking in “Grandma Hobbies” say they were searching for ways to take a break from technology. Data from EventBrite shows events involving scrapbooking and junk journaling doubled from 2023 and 2024. E-commerce giant Shopify says cross-stitch pattern sales rose 89 percent last month compared to the same time last year. The survey also found among Gen-Z participants…86 percent considered themselves crafters.
