LA Mayor Enforces Curfew Amid Anti-ICE Protests

The move looks to stop vandalism and looting that has occurred as demonstrators have taken to the streets.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced a curfew for a small part of the downtown area in response to the ongoing Anti-ICE protests.

The move looks to stop vandalism and looting that has occurred as demonstrators have taken to the streets to display their disapproval of current immigration raids.

The curfew covers one mile and is from 8pm-6am. Bass said police will arrest anyone who defies the order, except residents, people traveling to and from work and credentialed media. The curfew is expected to last for several days.

There are 20 plus businesses in that part of downtown, and there was significant graffiti in the area. Many of the most intense demonstrations have taken place near a series of federal buildings in downtown Los Angeles, including a detention facility and federal courthouse.

The curfew comes as President Trump has deployed 4,000 national guard troops to the area that is reportedly necessary to address violence as protesters clash with law enforcement.
