Coastal Carolina University Appoints New President

Dr. James J. Winebrake said this is a "tremendous honor" and he is eager to reach new heights at Teal Nation.

Coastal Carolina University has appointed it’s fourth president.

Dr. James J. Winebrake is set to officially take on the role on Saturday.

The new head of the school replaces Dr. Michael Benson, who was recently named the 27th president of West Virginia University.

Winebrake’s appointment is a result of a nationwide search that kicked off in February. He is coming from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. There he served as the provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs since 2020.

Winebrake said this is a “tremendous honor” and he is eager to reach new heights at Teal Nation.

“With his bold vision and extensive experience in higher education leadership, we will continue to extend our reach and amplify our impact regionally and beyond,” CCU said.
