DHS Conducts First Flight Carrying Volunteer Migrants Out Of U.S.
The flight took 64 citizens of Colombia and Honduras to their home country.
The Department of Homeland Security conducted its first flight carrying migrants who volunteered to be deported.
The flight took 64 citizens of Colombia and Honduras to their home country.
“All participants were offered the same benefits as any illegal alien who self-deports using the CBP home app. They received travel assistance, a $1,000 stipend, and preserved the possibility they could one day return to the united states legally,” the DHS said.
The agency also made it clear that “this was a voluntary charter flight, not an ICE enforcement operation.”
The Trump administration announced the new program earlier this month and more flights are expected.
