Judge Decides Resentencing For The Menendez Brothers

57-year-old Lyle and 54-year-old Erik were originally sentenced to life in prison without parole for fatally shooting their parents.

The infamous Menendez brothers, who were convicted in the 1996 murder of their parents, have been resentenced.

57-year-old Lyle and 54-year-old Erik were originally sentenced to life in prison without parole for fatally shooting Jose and Kitty Menendez in their California home.

The brothers claim the killings came after years of sexual abuse by their father which was reportedly ignored by their mother.

On Tuesday, Judge Michael Jesic ruled the two brothers will be resentenced to 50 years to life in prison, which makes them immediately eligible for parole. It also paves the way for the men to possibly be free.

Jesic acknowledged they committed a horrific crime, but said that life without parole gives an inmate no hope and no reason to do something good. He said that he’d given the matter “long thought” and was moved by the brothers’ behavior behind bars even when they had no hope of getting out.
