Trump Fires Two People From Top Positions

Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, and acting administrator of FEMA, Cameron Hamilton, were fired.

President Trump fired two people that held top positions.

One was the Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, who was the first African American to secure the country’s top librarian in 2016 and had about a year and a half left on her 10-year term. The decision was criticized by Democrats.

The acting administrator of FEMA was also fired. Cameron Hamilton was appointed by Trump and had been escorted out of FEMA’s headquarters just one day after he defended the agency during testimony in front of the House Appropriations Committee.

Hamilton said he does not support the dismantling of FEMA. His opinion comes as President Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have called for the agency to be “eliminated.”

David Richardson, who recently served as DHS assistant secretary for countering the weapons of mass destruction office, will now lead the agency on an interim basis.
