Attorneys General in 19 states and Washington DC are challenging cuts to the U.S. Health and Human Services agency.
They claim the Trump administration’s restructuring plans have destroyed life-saving programs and left states to fund the bill for a rising health crises.
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. restructured the agency in March, terminating over 10,000 employees and slashing the 28 agencies under the HHS umbrella to 15.
The Attorneys General said the administration deprived the agency of the resources necessary to do its job.
The Trump administration is already facing other legal challenges over cuts to public health agencies and research organizations.
