Russia Orders Three Day Ceasefire With Ukraine

The announcement came as the U.S. has been pushing to reach a peace-deal between the two countries amid the three-year conflict.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a surprising temporary truce with Ukraine.

The leader ordered the ceasefire to take place starting on May 8 through May 10, to coincide with Moscow’s World War II commemorations.

The announcement came as the U.S. has been pushing to reach a peace-deal between the two countries amid the three-year conflict.

Last month, Putin rejected a proposal for a full and unconditional 30-day ceasefire while President Trump has threatened to give up on peace talks if he does not see progress soon.

Trump’s spokeswoman said Monday that he wanted to see “a permanent ceasefire” and that the White House chief was becoming “increasingly frustrated” with the leaders of both Russia and Ukraine.

During the temporary pause, all combat operations will be suspended as Russia marks the 80th anniversary of Victory Day.
