Raising Awareness for Parkinson’s Disease on the Grand Strand

Both Leslie and Lanette are involved with a Parkinson's Disease exercise support group at Claire Epps Chapin YMCA.

Christine sits down with Leslie Gluchowski and Lanette Barnes to talk about Parkinson’s disease during Parkinson’s Awareness Month.

Both Leslie and Lanette are involved with a Parkinson’s Disease exercise support group at Claire Epps Chapin YMCA. The classes are offered at Claire Epps as well as the Tidelands YMCA on Mondays and Thursdays. Personal trainers are there to help those who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. The class is for anyone with Parkinson’s, Parkinsonisms, or movement disorders that would benefit from repetitive, exaggerated patterns of movement.

They also are involved with various fundraisers for our local community and the Micheal J. Fox Foundation. Lanette has been awarded a Golden Cowbell award from the Micheal J. Fox Foundation after raising over $25,000 dollars.

This fall, on October 19th, there will be a 5K run/walk event at Claire Epps Chapin YMCA and all proceeds will go toward Parkinson’s research. The event is in need of sponsorhips and volunteers!
