Jury Selection Begins In Harvey Weinstein’s Retrial

Harvey Weinstein's retrial will cover two charges of assault and one of rape stemming from allegations by three different women.

Harvey Weinstein’s retrial kicked off Tuesday in New York with jury selection.

The legal proceeding will mimic Weinstein’s original state trial and is expected to last nearly six weeks.

Judge Curtis Farber and lawyers for both sides will question and select 12 jurors from a pool of Manhattan residents. The verdict must be unanimous to convict.

The retrial comes after a new york appeals court overturned the 73-year-old’s conviction last April after the judge in his case admitted to allowing “irrelevant” testimony from women whose allegations were not part of the case. Weinstein was previously sentenced to 23 years in prison.

Now, his retrial will cover two charges of assault and one of rape stemming from allegations by three different women. He is currently being held at Rikers Island jail.
