Acting IRS Commissioner Steps Down After Data-Sharing Deal

Acting IRS Commissioner Melanie Krause is stepping down from the position.

Krause has been acting head of the agency since February and is resigning following a recent deal.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem struck a deal that allows ICE to submit the names and addresses of immigrants illegally into the U.S. for the IRS to cross verify tax records.

Krause had been involved in the last draft of the deal, but the final agreement was different. That acted as one of the reasons for her resignation. She’s expected to depart the organization April 28.
