SCOTUS Approves Trump Admin Use Of Alien Enemies Act

The Trump administration is expected to use the law to deport Venezuelan Nationals that are allegedly linked to gangs.

On Sunday, the Supreme Court gave the Trump administration permission to temporarily use the Alien Enemies Act for deportations.

The 1798 legislation gives the government certain powers during declared wars, as well as actual or threatened invasions of incursions. It’s rarely used, but was highly enforced to detain Japanese Nationals during World War II.

The Trump administration is expected to use the law to deport Venezuelan Nationals that are allegedly linked to gangs. This marks a victory for the president in his deportation efforts.

However, the migrants involved will have the chance to challenge their deportation before they are removed from the U.S.. The legal challenges must take place in the district where they are detained and the Trump administration must give them “reasonable time” to go to court.
