Myrtle Beach Leaders To Discuss Possible New Central Fire Station

Myrtle Beach leaders will be considering taking on a new project.
Construction of a new central fire station is expected to cost $26 million and would be included on the city’s five-year capital improvement plan.
It would involve a nearly 30,000-square-foot facility with space to consolidate emergency operations, 911 and dispatch services. The bigger facility would also boast a 5,400-square-foot vehicle bay and eliminate dangerous maneuvering.
the station manages the largest number of emergency calls in the area. City Finance Director Michelle Shumpert told council members that it has outgrown its current space.
If approved, the 20-year “resolution of intent” would funnel future hospitality tax revenues into the project to reimburse the suspected $26 million debt.
Construction could start by next summer and is expected to take 24-months.
