Myrtle Beach Crime Reportedly Down 50% Since 2015 Report

The report shows that in 2015, there were more than 4,900 reported incidents. Last year there were less than 2,600.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department had their 2024 year in review at the Myrtle Beach City Council workshop Tuesday night.

At the meeting, officials went in depth regarding all the successes and challenges they faced last year. City leaders annually go over the police department’s year in review.

This year’s report showed that crime in Myrtle Beach was down by 50% since 2015. The report shows that in 2015, there were more than 4,900 reported incidents. Last year there were less than 2,600.

The accomplishment could be attributed to new actions. That involves distributing city cell phones to all officers, adding 246 new city camera views, and increasing de-escalation training.

“If we aren’t out there telling this community and everybody we come across that our crime is down almost 50%, then shame on us. That’s a big story we need to be telling,” Mayor Brenda Bethune said.
