President Trump Considers Serving Third Term
The 22nd Amendment says “no person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice.”
On Sunday, President Trump stated that he is not joking about considering to serve a third term.
The remarks are the clearest indication that he intends to look into ways to breach a constitutional barrier against continuing to lead the country.
The 22nd Amendment says “no person shall be elected to the office of the president more than twice.” It was added to the constitution in 1951 after President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected four times in a row.
Trump said, “there are methods in which you could do it.” He elaborated saying that he has had more people ask him to serve a third term. He added, “which in a way is a fourth term because the other election, the 2020 election was totally rigged.”
Despite his statements, the president said he does not want to talk about a third term now because “no matter how you look at it, we have a long time to go.”
