Death Toll Continues To Rise After Powerful Myanmar Earthquake

At least 1,700 people have been confirmed dead, but the true death toll could take weeks to conclude.

The death toll continues to rise following a powerful earthquake that shook Myanmar and neighboring Thailand on Friday.

The 7.7 magnitude quake struck with an epicenter near Myanmar’s second-largest city of Mandalay, damaging the city’s airport, buckling roads and downing hundreds of buildings throughout a wide range of territory in the middle of the country.

Time is running out for rescue teams searching for survivors. The first 72-hours are crucial to find victims still alive under the rubble. At least 1,700 people have been confirmed dead, but the true death toll could take weeks to conclude. Another 3,400 people have been injured and more than 300 are missing.

The earthquake also caused damage to infrastructure in Bangkok but full extent of the devastation is still unclear.
