President Trump To Impose 25% Tariff On Auto Imports

The White House claims the tariffs would encourage domestic manufacturing but could also impact automakers

President Trump is planning to impose a 25% tariff on auto imports coming into the U.S..

The White House claims the tariffs would encourage domestic manufacturing but could also impact automakers that depend on global supply chains.

The White House expects the tariffs will raise $100 billion in revenue annually and lead to more factories opening in the U.S..

The move aims to end what Trump judges to be a “ridiculous” supply chain in which auto parts and complete vehicles are manufactured across the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

To highlight the significance of the tariffs, Trump said, “this is permanent.”
