The lawsuit is in response to President Trump’s executive order to dismantle the Department of Education.
The lawsuit alleges that Trump exceeded his constitutional authority in his attempt to shut down the department.
It also accused him of violating the Administrative Procedure Act that governs the process by which federal agencies develop and issue regulations.
The groups involved in the lawsuit include the National Education Association, the NAACP and others, along with public school parents.
