Journalist Added To Group Chat Regarding U.S Military War Plans
The National Security Council said the text chain “appears to be authentic.”
In an apparent breach of U.S. national security, The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief says top Trump administration officials accidentally sent him war plans.
Jeffrey Goldberg was reportedly added to a group chat involving discussions regarding military strikes in Yemen. He learned the information only a few hours before the plans were carried out on March 15.
The messages were sent in a group chat on ‘Signal,’ an encrypted messaging app. The National Security Council said the text chain “appears to be authentic.”
The White House is now reviewing use of the app over concerns that a handful of staffers are relying on it.
On Monday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth explained “nobody was texting war plans.” He made the comments after landing in a military base in Hawaii.
Now, Democrats are calling for Hegseth’s resignation over the incident.
