Large Debris Fire Prompts Major Smoke Presence
Authorities were able to contain the flames but smoke may be visible for an "extended duration."
If you witnessed a large smoke presence in Horry County Sunday, we know why.
Shortly before 3pm, fire rescue crews responded to the Horry County Recycling Center and landfill along Highway 90.
Upon arrival, they encountered a large debris pile in flames. Authorities were able to contain the flames but smoke may be visible for an “extended duration.”
In addition, as of Monday morning, the Covington Drive Fire was 80% contained and remains at 2,059 acres. Crews will continue to monitor and work around the fire area.
Mastication crews will continue operations and focus on the southern edge of the fire.
A burn ban is still in effect in Horry County.
