Horry Co. Leaders Vote To Keep Wind-Driven Shades Off Beaches

The 3-9 vote was against allowing a wind-driven shade trial run.

Horry County leaders voted to keep wind-shading devices off beaches during a meeting Tuesday.

Council members were considering the option to give a one-year trial period for beach-goers to use devices like the Shibumi Shade.

However, during the meeting that involved heated discussions, the proposal was shot down.

The 3-9 vote was against allowing a wind-driven shade trial run. That means those type of shades will not be allowed on Horry County’s 14-mile beach-front year-round.

Separately, Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach only ban the shades during the busiest three months of summer.
