Darlington Schools Secured After “Shots Fired” Situation
All students and staff were safe but dismissal was delayed until they received the all-clear which came shortly after 5pm.
A shots fired incident resulted in several school lockdowns in Darlington County Monday.
Nearly a dozen police officers responded to the situation that unfolded in the 1200 block of North 5th Street. Additional gunfire was reported in the area of Lakeview Street.
Around 2:30pm the Darlington County School District sent an email saying Hartsville High, Hartsville Middle, Carolina Elementary, Thornwell Elementary and Bay Road Elementary were secured.
All students and staff were safe but dismissal was delayed until they received the all-clear which came shortly after 5pm.
Officers located a suspect vehicle that crashed at the end of Green Street after failing to stop for blue lights. The suspect then fled on foot before being apprehended. Two other suspects were arrested along West Carolina Avenue.
There was no threat to the public and no one was harmed during the shootings. The incident remains under investigation.
