Major Rainfall Results In Fatal Flooding

Emergency crews with the Kentucky National Guard and the Kentucky state police performed more than 1,000 rescues.

A coast-to-coast winter storm has caused major flooding in Kentucky, and other portions of the Ohio Valley and mid-Atlantic.

More than a month’s worth of rain drenched much of Kentucky in less than 24-hours prompting water levels to rise in some waterways.

The rain has since stopped, but the situation is still active.

Emergency crews with the Kentucky National Guard and the Kentucky state police performed more than 1,000 rescues since the flooding started.

More than 340 roads were closed in the state due to flooding, which could potentially reach a record amount.

In total, 14 deaths have been recorded so far during the storms. One occurred in severe winds in Georgia, one in West Virginia and 12 in Kentucky.

That number is expected to rise as many reports of missing people have been filed.
