An underground propane leak started Monday night in the Surfside Beach area.

Around 6pm, the propane tank located on a property of KFC along 6th Avenue North began to leak, prompting fire crews to address the situation.

An estimated 10,000 gallons of water has been sprayed in an attempt to control the leak. The water helps make it less flammable.

The tank is estimated to be 500-gallons and crews stayed overnight to keep the incident under control.

The business was closed as of Tuesday morning and the electricity was cut off.
