The deadline for federal government employees to take their buyout offer is here.

The Trump administration is offering buyouts that gives federal employees an opportunity to quit their jobs and still receive around eight months of pay and benefits.

At least 20,000 federal employees have accepted the offer so far, which amounts to an estimated 1% out of two million currently eligible. That’s below the 5% to 10% target the White House expected.

Some unions are urging employees to refrain from being “tricked” into taking the offer.

Those against say there is no evidence the administration can or will uphold its end of the bargain. It argued that Congress may not go along with the restructuring. It also questions if there is appropriate funds that can be used this way.

Despite that, Feb, 6 is the last day for employees to accept the offer.
