Google updated its AI ethics policy.

The previous version of the principles pledged the tech giant would not use AI for weapons or surveillance.

It was under a section titled “applications we will not pursue,” which has now been deleted.

Google’s newly updated AI principles note the company will work to “mitigate unintended or harmful outcomes and avoid unfair bias,” as well as align the company with “widely accepted principles of international law and human rights.”

This update signifies a reversal in values from those originally published principles.
