Man Arrested After Over A Dozen Malnourished Dogs Seized

One man was arrested after over a dozen dogs were seized in Horry County.

Police Department Environmental Services Officers responded to a property in the Juniper Road area Monday after receiving an anonymous tip.

Upon arrival, 13 malnourished dogs were taken and transported to the Horry County Animal Care Center.

44-year-old Michael Smalls now faces 13 counts of illegal animal care and treatment following the investigation that determined the animals were “emaciated and improperly housed.”

The dogs will remain at the care center and are not available for adoption at this time.
