Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Freeze On Federal Aid
The move comes after a group of nonprofit and public health organizations filed a lawsuit.
A federal judge has blocked President Trump’s plan to pause federal loans and grants.
The freeze was set to go into effect Tuesday night, but U.S. District Judge Loren AliKhan granted a “brief administrative stay.”
It preserves federal aid at least until Monday at 5pm.
The move comes after a group of nonprofit and public health organizations filed a lawsuit.
The Trump administration defended the plan and stressed its “limitations, insisting the plan doesn’t apply across the board and won’t affect social security and other direct payments to individuals.”
The judge is set to host another hearing Monday on whether to grant a longer pause.
