Two Wildfires Continue To Scorch Parts Of California
The Palisades Fire continues to burn, but is now 31% contained and the Eaton Fire is 65% contained.
It’s been just over a week since massive wildfires forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate their homes in California.
The death toll now sits at at least 27 people who have lost their lives amid the mass tragedy. The fires have also destroyed more than 12,000 structures and scorched over 60-square-miles.
The Palisades Fire continues to burn, but is now 31% contained. Meanwhile, the Eaton Fire flames are still rolling, but is 65% contained.
More than 80,000 people are still under evacuation orders. Many who have fled have not been cleared to return to find out if or what they may have lost.
Officials said they understand their frustration, but asked residents for patience as hazardous materials teams and cadaver dogs comb the sites block-by-block.
They said it will be a week or more before people can go back.
The area affected is equal to three times the size of Manhattan. It has become one of the most devastating natural disasters in Southern California history.
