Biden To Commute Sentences Of Around 2,500 People
Biden has issued more pardons and commutations than any other U.S. president.
President Biden announced plans to commute the sentences of around 2,500 people.
The individuals set to receive commutations were reportedly convicted of non-violent drug offenses.
That includes those who are “serving disproportionately long sentences compared to the sentences they would receive today under current law, policy, and practice.”
The action provides relief for individuals whose sentences were given based on “discredited distinctions between crack and cocaine, as well as outdated sentencing enhancements for drug crimes.”
